Professional Genealogist, Richard L. Hooverson

"Unravel the mystery of your family history."



Mr. Hooverson, the owner of Out of the Past, has been a professional genealogist for 18 years. He wrote the "Musings and Gleanings" column in Heritage Quest magazine for 12 years and currently writes the same column for Genealogical Helper, and he has authored several articles for Family Chronicle. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin, he completed a career as Regular Army officer, during which he served on the faculties of two advanced service schools. He is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists, a Fellow of the Texas State Genealogical Society, a past director of the International Association of Family History Writers and Editors, a former two-term appointee to the Texas Historical Records Advisory Board.

Mr. Hooverson's great-grandfather emigrated from Norway to Wisconsin Territory in 1847 and he has traced this line to 1620 and made two research trips to Norway. His special interests are ethnic settlement patterns, social history, and the Southwest.  He has presented over 300 lectures nation-wide, including at conferences of the National Genealogical Society and the Federation of Genealogical Societies.
